The Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Centerexterior of center building is located in the southern Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina near Asheville. Approximately forty faculty and staff from NC State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and College of Natural Resources conduct research for the departments of Applied Ecology, Entomology, Forestry, Horticultural Science and Plant Pathology. In addition, the administrative offices for North Carolina Cooperative Extension’s West and North-Central Districts are located at MHCREC. The Center also hosts The Science House, an outreach program of NCSU’s College of Science.

The Center strives to help the people of western North Carolina improve their lives by conducting applied research, and developing and implementing highly effective Extension programs related to agriculture, the environment, family, and community.
